On November 26, the 2022 Global AI Innovation Contest (GAIIC 2022) was held in Hangzhou in a hybrid format.

The competition attracted more than 1,300 teams from well-known universities and companies, including Tsinghua University, Fudan University, ByteDance, and Baidu.

The team from the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) placed first in the “Image-Text Matching of Key Attributes of E-commerce” track.

The SUSTech team was composed of graduate students Haoquan LI, Laoming ZHANG, and Lang FU from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), under the guidance of Prof. Jianguo ZHANG, Asst. Prof. Peng YANG, and Research Asst. Prof. Guiying LI from the Department of CSE.

In the final, the SUSTech team demonstrated the important role of artificial intelligence (AI) in promoting the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and the high-quality development of the digital economy.

The GAIIC 2022 is co-sponsored by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) and Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government.

The competition aims to focus on cutting-edge AI technology and application innovation, drive the digital transformation of industry, promote academic exchanges, talent training, technological development, and cross-border application and integration in AI, and build a talent exchange platform and industrial ecosystem for AI.
