The College of Engineering was established in May 2015 at the Southern University of Science and Technology in response to a call to reform and modernize engineering education in China. The College has played a leading role in educational reform.
The College of Engineering comprises seven departments and three schools that cover a wide range of engineering disciplines. These are The Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering, The Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering, The Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, The Department of Ocean Science and Engineering, The Department of Biomedical Engineering, The School of Environmental Science and Engineering, The School of Microelectronics (The National Exemplary Microelectronics), and School of Automation and Intelligent Manufacturing.
The College also hosts thirteen research platforms that foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. These are The Institute of Trustworthy Autonomous Systems, The Center for Complex Flows and Soft Matter Research, The Institute of Innovative Materials, The Shenzhen Institute of Sustainable Development, The Institute of Innovative Manufacturing , The Carbon Neutral Energy Research Institute , The Institute of Nano Science and Applications , The Precision Optical Engineering Center , The Semiconductor Epitaxy and Device Research Institute, The Advanced Network Research Institute ,The Robotics Research Institute , The Institute of Advanced Artificial Intelligence , and Institute of Micro-Material Science and Technology.
The College offers a variety of academic programs at different levels, including two Postdoctoral Mobile Station, ten Doctoral degree programs, thirteen Master's degree programs, and 22 Undergraduate programs. It also has 28 provincial or ministerial-level laboratories and 50 municipal-level laboratories.
The College of Engineering is the home of over 330 world-class scholars from world-renowned institutions. Among the faculty body is 23 academicians, 15 recipients of “the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars”, 25 recipients of “the National Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars”, and 19 Distinguished Professors honoured by the Ministry of Education of China.
The College has established close links with top-notch institutions in America, Pan Pacific Region, and Europe on academic exchanges and research collaborations.
