On July 24, the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering (OSE) at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the School of Earth Sciences (SREES) at Yunnan University (YNU). SUSTech Acting Vice President Yusheng ZHAO and OSE Head Yongshun CHEN represented SUSTech. They met with SREES Party Committee Secretary Jisheng XIA and SREES Head Shucheng TAN.

OSE Head Yongshun CHEN and SREES Head Shucheng TAN signed the  cooperation agreement on behalf of their departments. The signing  ceremony was part of the opening ceremony of the undergraduate training  base for geophysics and biogeochemistry.

Under the agreement, both parties will cooperate on the development  of disciplines, talent training, scientific research, and resource  sharing. They will work together to develop new technological  innovations that serve earthquake safety and sustainable social  progress.

Both parties will focus on seismic monitoring and seismology research  on the southeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet plateau. Their mutual  talent training methods will lay the foundation for high-impact  scientific research that will lead to new ways of cooperation for both  party’s benefit.

Both departments will work together to set up a joint office that  will coordinate the various significant strategic cooperation matters.  It will hold meetings to promote exchanges between both parties,  establish daily contacts, and determine annual plans that strengthen the  goals of both institutions.
