Key Laboratory

1. Shenzhen Municipal Key Laboratory Of Nano-Imprinting Technology

The research directions of the laboratory include: development of nano-imprinting equipment, nano-imprinting technology and materials, as well as the application research of nano-imprinting technology. It strives to obtain a number of original intellectual property rights and patents in key equipment, processes and materials, engineering applications, etc. to fill the void of Shenzhen, Guangdong and China in the field of high-end nano-imprinting technology, thus lay the foundation for successful industrialization and economic benefits in the later period. At the same time, the laboratory also adheres to the principles of openness, pragmatism and resource sharing, providing scientific research, training, consulting and technology development services for Shenzhen's higher education institutions, scientific research institutions and high-tech enterprises, and opening key laboratory and platform equipment to the public.

2. Shenzhen Municipal Key Laboratory of Gallium Nitride (GaN) Devices

Supported by electronic and electrical engineering disciplines, this laboratory focuses on microelectronics technology and engages in innovative researches in GaN power device and packaging technology, GaN MEMS sensors and GaN thin film transistor and other key application technologies of GaN new-type semiconductor materials to meet the demands of Shenzhen's semiconductor industry for an upgrade, and provides scientific support and technical services for the development of the semiconductor industry in Shenzhen and the cultivation of emerging industries. Taking “Standing Upright” as the overall construction policy, the laboratory targets at the forefront of international academic and technological research and bases on the actual needs of Shenzhen's industrial development, while carrying out high-end applied basic research, gathering and cultivating outstanding scientific and technological talents and conducting high-level academic exchanges to build an innovative and open research platform, and thus, establish a leading domestically leading and internationally famous high-level scientific research and high-level academic exchange base.

3. Shenzhen Municipal Key Laboratory Of Organic Semiconductor Printing Material And Devices

The laboratory concentrates on the development of new high-performance organic semiconductor materials, and develops material systems for field effect transistors, solar cells and photodetectors with independent intellectual property rights. It establishes a characterization platform related to molecular structure, photoelectric properties, etc., and comprehensively characterizes the material properties in order to optimize the materials. The laboratory focuses on the solution printing process of organic semiconductor materials, and achieves high-throughput, large-area and flexible substrate printing processing of organic semiconductor materials through molecular structure, additives and solvent control. It has established a comprehensive organic semiconductor printing electronic research platform, with domestically leading and internationally renowned research capabilities.

4. Shenzhen Municipal Key Laboratory Of Soil And Underground Water Pollution Control

In response to the needs of China's water and soil pollution prevention and control, the laboratory actively carries out underground water and soil pollution exploration, rapid detection, pollution simulation, pollution assessment, health risk assessment and restoration on the basis of major basic research on underground water and soil pollution and other technical development and environmental consulting and engineering services, combined with social needs. It aims to promote the scientific and technological development of water and soil pollution environmental protection industry in Shenzhen, and establish a laboratory and technical support platform for soil, underground water pollution investigation, evaluation, management, planning and decision-making in Shenzhen, and become a think tank for soil and underground water pollution restoration and management in Shenzhen.

5. Shenzhen Municipal Key Laboratory Of Hydrogen Energy

The main research and development task of the laboratory is to build a Shenzhen municipal key laboratory sharing platform which uses electrolyzed water to produce hydrogen. The platform possesses the design, assembly and testing capabilities of the PEM electrolyzed water hydrogen production system. The laboratory focuses on the technology of hydrogen production with acidic electrolyzed water. It has mastered the process and engineering techniques of key components such as catalysts, bipolar plates and single cells. The specific research and development tasks are as follows: (1) Research on non-precious metal hydrogen evolution electrocatalytic materials and hydrogen evolution electrodes for hydrogen production from PEM electrolyzed water; (2) Design and integrated fluid simulation of single cells for hydrogen production by PEM electrolysis; (3) Research on stack consistency and system integration design. The goal is to establish a key laboratory for hydrogen energy technology based on PEM electrolysis to fill the domestic technical gap in this field and to lay the foundation for the industrialization of hydrogen energy technology in Shenzhen. In the short term, the Southern University of Science and Technology and Shenzhen will be upgraded to the international leading level in the field of hydrogen preparation technology.

6. Key Laboratory Of Full Spectrum Power Generation Function Material

The laboratory focuses on the research and development of solar full-spectrum power generation technology, focusing on the development of solar spectrum spectroscopic and concentrating materials, new high-efficiency photovoltaic materials and devices, and high heat capacity thermal storage materials. Professor He Zhubing from the Department of Materials and Professor He Zhenyu from the Department of Chemistry of Southern University of Science and Technology will serve as deputy directors of the laboratory, and 22 full-time researchers, including 10 doctoral researchers will be allocated. The laboratory now has advanced composite optical coating system, PECVD, PVD, ALD and other thin film physical deposition equipment, and a complete chemical synthesis and detection and characterization platform. Up to now, it has published more than 20 papers in international top academic journals such as Adv. Mater., Angew. Chem. Int., and applied for nearly 30 patents. The photovoltaic cell champion efficiency is close to 20%, and a number of high-quality optical film material design and preparation process technologies have been developed.

7. Key Laboratory Of Urban Solid Waste Recycling Technology And Management

The laboratory implements an “open, mobile, joint, and competitive” operational mechanism, and implements a director responsibility system under the leadership of the supporting unit and guidance of the academic committee. The director of the laboratory is Professor Liu Chongxuan, Professor Zhang Zuitai will be the Executive Director. The laboratory is planned to be equipped with 26 researchers, including 3 academic leaders. The laboratory personnel are mainly high-end talents from the academic and engineering circles in the field of urban solid waste recycling technology and management, including well-known entrepreneurs and professors in the field of solid waste comprehensive utilization, and winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund and the Peacock Plan, as well as senior engineers, etc. The main research and development contents of the laboratory include:

(1) Research on the recycling and innocent treatment process of solid waste;

(2) Research on environmental control and restoration during solid waste disposal;

(3) Research on the recycling and innocent management of solid waste.

8. Shenzhen Municipal Key Laboratory Of Motor Direct Drive Technology

The laboratory focuses on high-density direct-drive technology and non-contact magnetic shifting technology. By exploring new theories and new methods of electromagnetic energy conversion of electric motors, it develops new electric energy production and utilizing technologies, and promotes their application in new energy generation, electric drive, high efficiency and energy saving, etc., ultimately, it plans to serve the transformation and upgrade of new energy and equipment manufacturing industries in the Pearl River Delta region. The laboratory is located in Dapeng New District, Shenzhen. The site covers an area of 650 square meters. It has a 100-kilowatt electromechanical energy conversion test platform and a medium-sized machining center. It can carry out new prototype trials and system performance tests. The laboratory will combine the industry and geographical advantages of Dapeng New District to actively promote the technology research and development and transformation of marine power transmission equipment and offshore direct-drive wind power equipment.

9. Shenzhen Municipal Key Laboratory Of Computational Intelligence

The laboratory focuses on low-energy, lightweight, highly reliable, and self-evolving computational intelligence common technologies. It is committed to serve the Internet and software service industries, and closely connect with related enterprises to combine high-end R&D and industrial transformation, and thus, create a closed-loop industry chain from basic theory - key technologies - industrial application, providing key underlying technologies for the development of the Internet, software services and other industries as well as intelligent manufacturing, smart healthcare, smart logistics and other emerging directions.

10. Shenzhen Municipal Key Laboratory Of Additive Manufacturing Of High Functional Material

The laboratory is built to respond to the "Made in China 2025" industry development strategy, and meet the needs of Shenzhen's industrial transformation and technology upgrading. The laboratory strives to break through the existing technology bottleneck, and develop power production technology of high-performance materials (covering metal and polymer ceramics), 3D printing key technology and printing equipment with independent intellectual property rights, so as to achieve large-scale application in the field of aviation, automotive structural parts, mold industry and communication products. The laboratory implements open management, and introduces high-level talents including academicians and scholars. It aims to become a domestically advanced and internationally renowned theory and technology R&D center of high functional materials within 3-5 years.

14. Shenzhen Key Laboratory Of Interfacial Science And Application Engineering Of Materials

Shenzhen key laboratory of interfacial science and application engineering of materials is based on interfacial science. It aims to design and develop new interfacial functional materials and to build up the methods of controlling the interfacial behaviors in complex systems, utilizing the combination of various skills, including preparation of advanced materials, surface functionalization, interfacial mass transfer, wettability monitoring and environmental engineering. The ultimate purpose of this lab is to solve the increasing challenges of environmental pollution and resource shortage as a result of the fast development of new and traditional energy industries.

The research areas of this laboratory include efficient resource utilization of spent lithium battery industry, waste treatment and reutilization of oily soil, preparation of high capacity lithium battery materials, development of superhydrophobic materials and responsive magnetic interface materials.

9. Shenzhen Flexible Solar Cell R&D Engineering Research Center

The Shenzhen Flexible Solar Cell R&D Engineering Research Center for Flexible Solar Cells (the Center) is jointly supported by the Shenzhen Development and Reform Committee (SZDRC) and Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). As a municipality-level engineering research center, it focuses on developing the novel, third-generation flexible solar cells, including materials, devices, characterization technologies, and related commercialization. The Center is expected to become a world-class platform on novel flexible solar cells, and an essential resource for Shenzhen’s solar cell and new energy industry. It will provide technical support, intellectual service, and talent cultivation, through the systematic research and development from fundamental research, key technology, and equipment development, to technology transfer and commercialization.
